Ear piercing is the oldest recognized type of body modifications with both written and artistic references from countless known backgrounds all over the world even dating back in prehistoric ages.
An earring is a tiny piece of jewelry worn on the ear. Recently, they are worn by both men and women alike although typically more on women. However, what you may not know is that its origin and earliest record where to that of the male individuals.
The first traces of earrings being worn are from ancient Persia, the carvings of soldiers from different parts of the Empire that have survived shows the soldiers significantly wearing earrings. It is even said that the Greek adorned the statues of great soldiers with earrings.
In India, most, if not all young children, both girls and boys are deemed to have their ears pierced in a religious ceremony. They are required to get earrings before they hit the age of 5.
Ear adornment became popular in the U.S. in the early 1920’s particularly amongst sailors. A lot of legends and stories surround the significance of earrings amid sailors. One story tells that a pierced ear most of the times mean that the wearer had already crossed the equator of have had sailed around the world. In rare cases, a piercing on the left ear may designate a sailor’s survival from a tragic disaster often a ship wreck.
By the dawn of the 60’s, ear piercing increasingly grew its established popularity and even took the roads towards the male population. In the late 70’s and the dawn of the punk rock era, males were known to have multiple piercing sometimes even using safety pins! Celebrities and professional athletes were also the biggest influence of this rage. By the late 80’s popular male singers and performers pierced their ears to set a new trend for men, which was eventually adopted by the male public. One of the most prominent examples of their time was the ever famous George Michael.
Infants of today may even get earrings and their ears pierced as early as six months. It is long deemed that puncturing the ears is advantageous for they heighten the acuity of the eyes. There are even beliefs that it could also improve our sense of hearing. But to whatever purposes they may serve, most if not all earrings are used for adornment and accessory especially amongst women.

Diamond earrings have become the dream of women of all ages. They have been and is still is the ultimate and the most prized piece of earring. However, due to its extreme rarity, it has also established a very lofty prize.
A good pair of earrings may just be all your need to give life to that boring outfit. Just remember that it doesn’t necessarily have to expensive, it’s how you wear them with confidence which what matters most.
